Save and Share Reports

Posted on

The standard method of saving reports is to save to the MadgeTech 4 internal File Database:

  1. Open a dataset as a Graph, Data Table, or Statistics report
  2. Go to File – Save
  3. Select a Report folder or subfolder within the File Database as the save location

To save reports as individual files outside of the software, which can be shared, use the following method:

  1. Originating PC opens a dataset as a Graph, Data Table, or Statistics report
  2. Go to File – Save To – File to save in the MadgeTech File Format (.mtff/.mtffs)
  3. Save the file or send the file as an email attachment
  4. Viewing PC receives the file and saves to PC
  5. In the MadgeTech 4 software, go to File – Open
  6. To save a report, go to File – Save
  7. To save a report and a dataset (raw data) to File Database, go to File – Save To – File Database.  (Saving in this manner saves the original data previously downloaded on a different PC)

To share files in MadgeTech 4 Secure Software, all PC’s require a Secure Software license.  Please contact [email protected] to purchase additional software licenses.

Can I use a Thermocouple Simulator to calibrate my thermocouple based data logger?

Can I use a Thermocouple Simulator to calibrate my thermocouple based data logger?

Thermocouple calibrators do not work reliably with most MadgeTech thermocouple loggers. The data logger will pull down the voltage of the thermocouple calibrator enough to alter the reading. While the thermocouple calibrator will recover quickly, the data logger will take the reading before the calibrator has corrected itself. This will lead to an inaccurate reading. Due to this, using a thermocouple simulator is not recommended when calibrating MadgeTech loggers.

MadgeTech 4 Will Not Open – DbProviderFactories Error

Posted on

This article addresses an issue where the software will not open, or crashes when opening. An error may or may not be presented showing that The application has encountered a problem and needs to close.  The specific error message is “The ‘DbProviderFactories’ section can only appear once per config file.”

Please follow the instructions to fix the issue:

This crash or failure to launch, is caused by a typographical error in one of Microsoft’s .NET Framework configuration files.  This file is located here:

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Config\Machine.Config

and/or here:

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Config\Machine.Config

Back up the file to a second location before any changes or edits are made.  Next, open the file in Notepad.

The following text is the typographical error that must be removed from the file. It must look exactly like this with the slash near the end:

<DbProviderFactories />.

The text below shows an example of what this line will likely look like in the file.  Remove only the line that is bold, that shows the “/” character after DbProviderFactories.

Finally, save the file, overwriting Machine.config, and attempt to open MadgeTech 4. It may be necessary to save the file to a second location first, then close it, then copy it from the second location to the original folder.  When saving, make sure to change the file type to “all files”, and the name to “machine.config” rather than just machine.
